Scanning running slow- is it time to reinstall?
« on: May 23, 2013, 11:47:10 AM »
Scanning upon opening the program doesn't seem to finish even when allowed to run several hours overnight.  Stopping scan seems to take a long time as well, not sure I have seen it finish.  On closing PDFE, error message appears:  DBIDX Error Database file damaged Attempting repair, with PDF Explorer - application error box flashing behind it.

Is there a fix for this, short of a reinstall?

The database is damaged, so let's start with a new one.
Make sure PDF Explorer is not running, that may be happening in hidden state (may occur when these closing error messages show up). Use the windows task manager to be sure, and if running kill the process.
Now start Windows Explorer and type %appdata%\PDF Explorer in the address bar. Click enter and in the folder that will show up (the PDF Explorer data folder) delete the file PDEDB.idx. This will force PDFE to create a new database, the next time it starts, so you will need to re-index all your PDFs again.

During the normal usage of the program, you should, from time to time (especially after indexing a great number of files to an already indexed folder, or editing many files metadata), defragment the database. Optimize named button in the database editor tool (menu Database>Edit).
