Title: Searching PDFE <-> Viewer
Post by: Anonymous on June 11, 2007, 05:16:00 PM
Hi,

Thanks for your great program. I use it for a few months as a freeware version and think I am quite ready to buy it. I have a question about the search index feature.

I subscribed to the french newspaper "Le Monde" in PDF. I have a huge collection I would like to search. Each week I index the newspaper folder and I am able to perform very quick searches : that's great. I get a list of the newspapers containing the keyword. But, when I double-click a PDF file in this list, I am just able to open the document's first page (I use Foxit reader). To reach the right place with the keyword, I have to perform a new search inside the document with the Foxit reader search tool.

Wouldn't it be possible from a search within PDFE to open the documents directly at the right place : first occurence of the searched keyword. That would be very nice.

Thank you,
Alain

Currently there is no way to provide that nice feature because the index of words do not contain the Word->PageIndex information.
This has not developed yet because there are also some technical difficulties to open a specific PDF page and highlight the keyword using the External Readers plugins.

If eventually I develop/add an embedded reader into future versions I can add this and many other usefull features but developing a reader with the qualitty of Acrobat, FoxitReader or BravaReader is not a easy task and the royalties to embed these readers code is not cheap. Right now the main goal is to add more functionalities without the need of a internal reader.
