Title: Browsing Folders and files not updated in PDFE
Post by: risa on October 07, 2011, 08:26:07 AM
If we open PDFE and browse to a folder, files are shown OK.
If we do changes of folder structure in Windows explorer this is not reflected i PDFE, even if we go from 1 folder to another.
We therefore have to close and open PDFE many times to be sure that we have the right folder structure showing.

We run Windows 7 and PDFE version 1.5.0.59 + Patch 4

Yes, the code used by the DiskTree tree control to detect changes in the folders structure has been disabled, to circumvent other problems. I will try to fix the issues, and enable again the feature in the next version release.

Even if it's not possible to see/select the updated folders structure, without restarting PDFE, you can select a, still valid, parent folder, of the ones you changed from Windows Explorer, and tick the subfolders checkbox. This way PDFE will scan the new folders structure and update the database accordingly. You can then confirm it from the DBDiskTree scan mode.

The more obvious solution is to:

- add a 'Refresh' button near 'Calculations panel' button
- add a contextual 'Refresh' command for ScanGrid area

I was referring to FILES added/removed from a folder case.
Now I see the topic is about SUB-FOLDERS added/removed from a folder.
But nevertheless, my solution for files list refresh stands.
As for disk tree refresh, add a 'Refresh' button near 'Subfolders' checkbox and assign to it a function that does what you said: 'select a, still valid, parent folder, of the ones you changed from Windows Explorer, and tick the subfolders checkbox'. Even better, you could run that function each time you select a folder in disk tree view.

The initial post issue is already fixed. The DiskTree is back updating the folders structure automatically.

Regarding your idea. You can set up folder monitors, menu Database>IndexerSettings (http://www.rttsoftware.com/Manuals/Index.htm?pageURL=PDFE/English/IndexerSettings.htm), for the main folder where you usually save/edit your PDFs, or even the disk root to monitor all, and a refresh button will show up on top of the active scan mode panel, when changes are detected. New and changed files will be automatically indexed, but the grid only updates if you click that refresh button.
